Get up, old man

Uncle is found taking a nap next to an old wagon. John promptly wakes him. With Uncle complaining John reminds him that he can sleep for good if that's what he wants. John asks why the cattle aren't out to pasture yet but Uncle continues to complain. John just wants to move the cows and says they'll do it together. They start walking.

Rawhide!

Mount your horse and get into position behind the herd as usual with Uncle leading. Move the cows out of the pen and towards the northeastern gateway. Get them through and John comments that the area is overgrazed. Continue following Uncle up the hill across the plains. Return any stragglers if needed and remember to zigzag behind the herd to keep them together.

After passing over the top of the hill you may notice a train in the distance off to the right and some figures on horseback by the tracks across the field. As you reach the road an explosion occurs in front of the train. Naturally the cows get scared and begin to stampede. Get in front of the cows and stop them before they run off for good or get killed by the train. Stampeding cows are dark blue on your radar.

After stopping the stampede it is revealed that the men on horseback are outlaws trying to rob the train. You are given the choice to stop them or ignore the robbery. If you choose to stop them there are four enemies running with the train and three more towards Blackwater. When they are all dead the train will stop and you need to chat with the engineer. He'll thank John for the help and be on his way.

Whether the robbery is ignored or not, return to Uncle and round up the stragglers. Continue moving the herd south to the pasture as Uncle leads the way. When they all reach the marker the final cutscene shows John telling Uncle to stay with the herd while he goes back to the ranch. Uncle refuses and rides off.

Gold Tips

  • Sprint to your horse and mount up.
  • Quickly get into position behind the herd and move them out. You do not need to wait for Uncle.
  • Move the herd out of the gateway and up the hill. Try not to hit "up" right before the gateway as the cows may get caught up with the fence. Return any stragglers as needed.
  • Move the herd past the rocks and over the hill. There are telegraph poles at the top.
  • The explosion will happen just as the cows reach the road and some rocks on the side of the road. Right before they reach that point, go around to the right of the herd and sprint to head them off before they get too far away.
  • With all the cows stopped, go after the outlaws. Kill all of them. You do not need to worry about headshots or accuracy but it helps for time.
  • When the outlaws are dead sprint to the engineer and immediately sprint back to Uncle.
  • Round up the stragglers before Uncle does. If there are no stragglers or Uncle gets them, you can do a trick by forcing one or more to become stragglers while riding to Beecher's Hope. This is done by getting ahead of a cow and making the others go faster or running the herd into obstacles such as telegraph poles or rocks. Return as many as needed to get the percentage.
  • Move the herd to the pasture.
  • Notes: These cows seem to be more stubborn and can be a pain to get moving again after stopping or when caught in obstacles. You should have plenty of time. You need to stop the outlaws and keep all the cows alive for full Fame and Honor.
