Dear Uncle Tacitus

Arthur makes it back to the land he had left behind. His task is to search Shady Belle for the remaining gang.

Rewards:

Back in the US

Arthur is rowed into a dock at Van Horn. Head down to Shady Belle to look for the gang. A horse is located at the top of the hill for you to take. As you ride along the game reminds you about the cinematic mode while "Unshaken" by D'Angelo begins to play. You'll be riding all the way to the camp.

Arriving in Shady Belle it's obvious the remaining gang left in a hurry. Enter the house and look around for anyone. The game will tell you to search upstairs for clues. Eagle Eye will show you footprints going upstairs but if you glance to the right you'll see a letter on a table. There are a few ways to go about this.

Upstairs

Following the footprints, they lead up the stairs and into the first room. Walk in. Outside Arthur hears voices. Pinkertons are here for their daily search. They have low hopes but find Arthur's footprints. They start searching the property. You are told to deal with the Pinkertons. Three agents are inside: one walks upstairs to search the south room, another searches the southwest rooms downstairs, and the third hangs out in the north room. The fourth is in the backyard. Kill them however you wish.

If you keep it quiet and sneak downstairs, one of the agents will find a letter on the table and read it for the other in the next room. It is addressed to "Uncle Tacitus" who had gone on "vacation". The writer - "Caroline" - has gone to Lakay which is north of St. Denis to visit family. Uncle Tacitus is invited to join them. The other agent knows it is fake and they'll need to pay a visit to Lakay - more reason you are required to kill them before leaving Shady Belle. After they are dead collect the letter. You can also look around for loot including cigarette cards in both front rooms upstairs.

If done in a noisy way, when they are all dead search downstairs for clues. You can also look around for the loot. Use Eagle Eye to assist you. Downstairs in the west room is the letter on the table.

Downstairs

Inspect the letter on the table to the right. It is addressed to "Uncle Tacitus" who had gone on "vacation". The writer - "Caroline" - has gone to Lakay which is north of St. Denis to visit family. Uncle Tacitus is invited to join them. Outside Arthur hears voices. Pinkertons are here for their daily search. They have low hopes but find Arthur's footprints. They start searching the property.

Escape past the Pinkertons or kill them. Three agents are inside: one walks upstairs to search the south room, another searches the southwest rooms downstairs, and the third hangs out in the north room. The fourth is in the backyard. When the agent passes you, simply sneak out the front door to your horse. The agent that passes you will eventually turn around so do not stay in there too long.

Alternatively, you can go around and stealth kill them if you wish - or be loud. Either way. You can also look around for loot including cigarette cards in both front rooms upstairs.

Off to Lakay

Whichever route you take to get out of the house, ride to Lakay which is near Lagras. This time cinematics take you most of the way there. Finish the ride into the village.

This mission leads directly into Fleeting Joy.

Gold Tips

  • Quickly get on the horse and ride to Shady Belle. After the cinematic mode prompt there is no horse stamina during the ride so you can tap to run constantly.
  • Once at Shady Belle, dismount and quickly go inside to the room on the right. Read the letter and then the Pinkertons arrive. Back in control, when the first one passes through the room sneak out the front door then run to your horse and take off towards Lakay.
  • After the cinematics keep moving to Lakay as quickly as possible.
