Money Lending and Other Sins - III

A special debt that needs to be collected. Mr. Downes is known as a do-gooder so he should be able to pay off his loan. If not, someone will need to do him in good.

Rewards: None

Tommy be good

Thomas Downes is found at his ranch tending the garden. He sees Arthur coming and attempts to find the right words to say. Confront Mr. Downes and he'll try to defend himself using a rake. Arthur easily takes it away and knocks him to the ground. Threaten or beat him. Threats don't yield much results so beating it is.

After a few hits he stands up against the fence. Downes coughs some blood in Arthur's face and says he owes more than his ranch is worth so Arthur tells him to sell his family if he has to. The aforementioned family - wife and son - comes running to help their husband and father. Mrs. Downes says Thomas isn't well. Arthur walks off telling them to get the money. He is then shown riding back to camp.

At the camp speak with Leopold Strauss who is out on his perch. Arthur tells him Downes isn't doing well and probably shouldn't have been lent money to begin with. Strauss says desperate people are the only ones interested in his business.

Gold Tips

  • As soon as you enter the area run to the garden and hop the fence (not the gate). Arthur will automatically take the rake and knock him down. On an initial playthrough you can come from the north side of the garden and hop the fence where he is.
  • Try hit, threaten, hit, hit (Arthur then picks him up and throws him down), hit. After those 5 actions the cutscene should play.
  • To save time at the camp, go around to the right (north side) and hug the cliff with your horse. You can get quite close to Strauss before it slows to a crawl. Get off and walk the rest until the cutscene plays.
