Arthur can help the poor and not just in monetary form. St. Denis hides many secrets. Some of them are below everyone's feet.

Black market

A monk next to the market asks Arthur for a donation for the poor since he looks like a kind person. Arthur argues otherwise but you are given the option to donate or not. The man says the slave trade didn't actually end and St. Denis is a staging post before slaves are shipped to the islands. The pawnbroker down the block with a green door sells more than trinkets.

Investigate the shop on the other side of the market area. It's inside the market to the left with the green second floor above. You are told to look for clues. Search around or talk to the shopkeeper. Going to the shopkeeper, you can question him about slaves. Keep pressing him and you are told to threaten the shopkeeper. He tells Arthur there is a door behind a bookcase in the next room. Pull a big red book to open it. Go over to the fake bookcase and open it.

Avoiding the shopkeeper, use Eagle Eye to look around. Cabinet to the right of the doorway has a cheat code written in it. Everything else is empty. In the room across from the shopkeeper is a clue. Inspect the scratch marks on the floor. The shopkeeper says the bookcase doesn't move. You are told to threaten the shopkeeper. Do so or force the bookcase to open. Forcing will have the shopkeeper run away. Threatening him, he admits there is a door behind it. Pull a big red book to open it. Go over to the fake bookcase and open it.

Note you can kill the shopkeeper with no consequence. Even if you chase him into the market area. He has a few dollars and a watch on him for loot.

Salvation

After Arthur moves the bookcase out of the way investigate the basement. Down the stairs are two captives. Free them. Return to the monk with the slaves. The shopkeeper will be long gone so feel free to rob the register. Take money for yourself or give some to the slaves. The monk - Brother Dorkins - is glad for Arthur's help. He offers the money in his tray as payment. Take it or let the poor have it. Brother Dorkins takes the slaves to get food. He'll be at the church near Gaspar Street and St. Frances.

Gold Tips

• Run to the shop and go straight to the bookcase.
• Inspect the scratches and then force the door open.
• Quickly go down the stairs and free the captives.
• Run back to the monk. Do not wait for the captives. They appear behind you when you reach him.
