The New South

The gang has been through a lot with yet another move so the higher ups will take in a fishing trip to relax. Who knows what they'll catch out here.

Rewards: Fishing Lure

Catfish

Dutch is found looking out over the water. He thinks it's funny being in the south since his father died fighting the southern states. Arthur's outlook is bleak but Dutch tries to find the bright side. Follow Dutch. It's a nice day so them and Hosea will go fishing. After finding him mount your horse and follow Hosea.

These three are the originals of the gang. As much as he loves the area, Dutch is putting together ideas to get out but he'll need both Hosea and Arthur on his side. They need to keep low after Valentine. This means no weapons in nearby Rhodes as the game will notify you. Hosea should find plenty of wealthy simpletons to swindle.

Up ahead Dutch spots some lawmen on a prisoner wagon. With a train blocking the road due to cows on the tracks the men ride up to it. Among the unfortunate passengers is Josiah Trelawny. Wanting a bit of assistance, Dutch will talk to the lawmen. He uses an alias - Hoagy Macintosh - while speaking to Sheriff Leigh Gray and Deputy Archibald McGregor. Trelawny was apparently running a gold mine investment scam. Dutch says Trelawny is a magician. As they talk, the prisoners open the lock and escape. The Anderson boys run onto the now-moving train to get away. Dutch tells the lawmen they'll get them back. Arthur will take Archibald and helps him onto his horse.

Slippery fellers

Chase the train. Archibald tells Arthur - Callahan - not to shoot them. Passing a water tower one of the prisoners gets knocked off. One down. The train slows near a barn and Archibald says to get alongside. Approach the flatcar and jump on. Another prisoner throwing bottles grabs Arthur. Break free and he gets tossed off. Two down, two more.

Chase the remaining Anderson Boys towards the locomotive. Dodge a hay bale and on top of the next boxcar one of them will try to fight Arthur. The game will display fighting instructions including how to grapple. Beat him until he falls off or you can use your lasso to tie him up. Three down. Chasing the final one, Archibald says he'll try to stop the locomotive. The remaining Anderson gets caught inside a refrigerator car. With nowhere to go, he pulls a knife and wants to fight.

As both men take their stance the train grinds to a halt. The door behind Arthur shuts. Win the cage match against the Anderson Boy by knocking him out. Grab the body and Archibald will open the side door. This is Anders Anderson. Put him on your horse and follow Archibald. He gives Arthur a tour of the area. The tobacco fields on the right are part of the Caliga Estate owned by the Gray Family - the Sheriff included. Very dry right now. West of here is an estate owned by the Braithwaites. They don't get along with the Grays.

Hooked

Arriving in Rhodes take Anders to the Sheriff's Office. Arthur drops him in the street as Dutch exits with the Sheriff. Trelawny is free to go. The Sheriff thanks them but needs to speak with a young man named Beau who has apparently been conversing with a Braithwaite. Trelawny is staying here behind the church. He mentions the families fighting. Dutch wants Arthur and Hosea to find out what they can. Trelawny also mentions the bounty on their heads and supposed "super agents" coming to find them. Dutch isn't worried.

With Trelawny departing, Dutch tells Arthur to find information about the Grays. Hosea will go to the Braithwaites. The fishing trip they had planned isn't lost yet. Choose to go fishing or not. If not, Dutch and Hosea will leave Arthur in Rhodes. If you agree, Hosea will lead the way to a spot he found. They whistle for their horses. Mount your horse and follow Hosea.

During the ride Dutch says the diversion was worth it. You can ask Hosea about his fishing spot or Trelawny. You can then ask Dutch about Sheriff Gray or the bounties. Reaching the water they borrow a boat. A cutscene shows them get the boat in the water. Arthur will row. Back in control you'll need to row the boat to the fishing spot. When you get there pull out the fishing rod and equip a lure Hosea gives you. The game will walk you through how to fish with it.

As you fish the men discuss various things. Hosea mentions a monster fish near the bottom of St. Denis. Dutch mentions his mother is buried in Blackwater. He left when he was 15 years old and never saw her again. When you are done fishing put the rod away. A boat could be useful so they'll take it with them. Row back to camp. They'll sing songs to pass the time. Arriving on the shore Dutch thinks they'll be okay. He just needs Hosea and Arthur at his side. Back to viewing the water.

Gold Tips

  • There is no overall time objective so take it easy chasing the train. You can't catch up until the barn anyway.
  • Quickly move up the train dealing with each Anderson. You can practice grappling on the third guy on top of the boxcar.
  • Fighting Anders is more luck than anything. Try to grapple him (triangle or Y) and get him to the floor. After that either beat/kick him or get behind to choke him. You may need to reapply the choke hold. Beat him until he goes down.
  • Quickly grab Anders when allowed and put him on your horse. You can't get away from Archibald but try to move as quickly as you can. In Rhodes quickly dismount and take Anders over to the Sheriff Office.
  • Agree to go fishing at the end. Catch a fish and you can stop. You need to keep it.
