In the second of Rockstar's series on Weird Western favorites (see Part 1), they present the late Michael Crichton’s 1973 cult-classic sci-fi futurist Western thriller “Westworld”.
A progenitor of Crichton’s later smash success, Jurassic Park – the very bizarre and highly enjoyable “Westworld” takes place in a futuristic fantasy theme park where patrons can live out their fantasies as denizens of ancient Rome, Medieval times, and most notably – the Wild West. Each locale is populated with lifelike robots performing some mechanical cos-play to bring the respective setting and vibe to life.
As would happen in such a film, things of course inevitably go a bit awry to say the least – highlighted most memorably by the menacing robo-gunslinger portrayed by Yul Brynner who relentlessly stalks protagonists Richard Benjamin and James Brolin. Early shades of both “Robocop” and “The Terminator” also abound.
