Unlock Manny Quinn
Manny Quinn is a secret character who can be unlocked while playing Showdown mode. Read up on exactly how to unlock him.
Manny Quinn is a wooden mannequin who is used as the playable character in "Red Wood Revolver" mode which is unlocked after completing the story on Normal and Hard mode. When controlling Manny, pressing R2 to activate 'Deadeye' will see him light himself on fire. Touching enemies while burning will set them on fire too and eventually kill them.
Unlike all other characters in the game who are unlocked for Showdown mode by purchasing or unlocking items in the shop throughout the story, Manny Quinn can only be unlocked by completing a secret challenge inside Showdown mode.
Showdown mode is the games' Multiplayer deathmatch-style game mode. It's available from the second you start the game, however in order to unlock Manny Quinn, you'll probably want to play through a bit of the story first.
Pre-Requisites
You'll ideally need to play through the single player story until the end of Chapter 11 - Range War. Doing this will unlock "The Ranch" as a Showdown level.
In Chapter 4 - The Traincar, ensure you purchase the "Family Photo" for $750 from the shop at the start of the level in order to unlock Sheriff O'Grady as a Showdown character. Save money as you play through to ensure you can afford it.
How To Unlock Manny Quinn
Ultimately, you need to win a match in Showdown mode after spending at least 6 minutes, in total, on fire. This is very unlikely to come naturally so you'll need to customise the settings and your gameplay strategy to specifically target this challenge.
Showdown Settings
It's not necessary to play Showdown mode with 2 controllers, however doing so will make the challenge a little bit easier. The 2nd player doesn't need to do anything and they're just required to start the game.
Select 2 characters in the Showdown mode character selection screen. Ensure one of them is Sheriff O'Grady, then press Circle and assign him to your single player profile. He's on the bottom row, 5 from the left, depending on how many characters you've unlocked so far.
It doesn't matter who the 2nd character is, but ensure they're on a different team by pressing Square to change their background color. If you have a second controller, you can set them up to be controlled by the 2nd player, otherwise just let the AI control them.
On the Map selection screen, select "The Ranch", then press Circle to customise the game mode settings.
Set the match to "Sundown" with a 15-minute time limit and no power-ups. This will guarantee the level will last 15 minutes which is very slightly more time than you'll need.
Showdown Gameplay Walkthrough
Once the match starts, find and kill your opponent a few times to ensure you're in the lead - you have to win the match to unlock Manny Quinn. If you're only playing against a 2nd controller then one kill is enough.
The reason we needed Sheriff O'Grady is that he comes equipped with Fire Bottles by default. Use the left and right D-Pad arrows to switch weapons until you've selected them then run into the barn in the middle of the level.
The reason we needed to play "The Ranch" level is because like the single player story level, the barn can be set on fire and will burn permanently throughout the remainder of the time.
Throw your Fire Bottles in and around the barn to start some fires. Eventually a few of them should light and will burn permanently. You can aim at the hay inside, but it's also possible to set some of the doors or walls on the outside of the barn on fire which does slightly speed up the process for later.
Now all you need to do is run into the barn and touch the flames. You'll burn for 4-5 seconds before you die. When you do, press the button to respawn as quickly as you can, then run straight back into the barn and set your self on fire again. Rinse and repeat this process as quickly as you can for the remainder of the time.
Assuming you burn for 4 seconds each time, which seems to be the case if you run around, you'll have to die 90 times to hit the 6 minute total.
It seems that you'll burn for slightly longer if you stand still, so assuming you burn for 5 seconds when standing still, you'll still need to die at least 72 times to hit the 6 minute total.
Each time you die, you'll drop a card, and quite often these can provide health boosts, so you can actually optimise your time by burning until you're almost dead, then collecting a health card and continuing to burn for a bit longer before you die. Most of the time is wasted running from the spawn point to the barn, so the longer you can burn between respawns the better.
You need to keep running into the flames and let them kill you over and over. It'll be pretty difficult to keep a count of how long you've burned for, but I estimated it takes about 12 seconds per death to burn, die and respawn which, assuming you die 72 times, will take almost 14 and a half minutes of the 15 minute time limit!
Keep running into the fire as quick as you can, then respawn as quickly as you can and do it all over. Don't stop until the time limit runs out. Because the fire will keep burning forever, you don't need to waste time throwing any more Fire Bottles.
After the game is over, head back to the main menu and go into Showdown mode. If you unlocked Manny Quinn, you'll spot him at the top right of the back row of characters in the roster.
If he's not there, you didn't burn for long enough, so you'll need to go back in and try this all again.
