Hello?

Marston returns to the Armadillo jailhouse to find Marshal Johnson attempting to take a phone call over the new line. While discussing the changing times, Deputy Eli comes running in yelling that he spotted rustlers up in Pike's Basin. He's certain that it's the Bollard Twins Gang who has captured some of Mr. Gulch's cattle and ranch hands. The marshal says to mount up and offers John to ride along. He accepts.

Getting in

Mount your horse and follow the marshals (including Jonah) to Pike's Basin. Along the way they'll question your affiliation with the clowns from Blackwater and have discussions about government interference. Eventually you'll come to the Western entrance of the canyons. Dismount your horse and all four of you will enter together. Select your rifle on your way in.

An initial group of 5 enemies will greet you with one being up high. Kill them all and you'll be given the choice to follow the marshal or the deputies through the canyons. Red points are groups of enemies.

Team Marshal

If you choose to follow the marshal you will go to the right. Head up the right-hand ridge where there are two enemies with one shooting at you. The other will move out when you run up the hill so kill him. The other will stay put behind some rocks for an easy headshot. Continue running along the ridge and around the bend. You'll be able to see the deputies making progress across the canyon. Another enemy will be hiding behind some rocks ahead and then another just beyond that. Take them both out.

Make your way to the campsite and kill the four enemies there. Once they are all dead, open the two chests in the campsite for ammo and money. One is in the middle and the other is towards the next basin. The marshal will wait for you by some rocks. Run with him and he'll warn of snipers. When you get a little farther two enemies will appear across the canyon behind rocks. Kill them from your side or sprint across the bridge. There will also be two enemies across the second bridge shooting at you too. Kill them all. The deputies may chase two enemies towards the snipers while you are there too. The deputies should take care of them. Cross the second bridge and wait for the marshal and deputies behind some rocks.

Team Deputy

The deputies will go left from the entranceway. Up ahead there will be four enemies behind some trees. They may run up a small hill on the right but you should be able to take them all out before that happens. Continue around the bend and three more enemies will be hiding behind some rocks. Kill them. Next run up the left-hand ridge where there are two enemies waiting and three around the campsite. Once they are all dead, check the chests for ammo and money. One is in the middle and the other at the far side. Cross the bridge and meet with the deputies who will be waiting for you.

Once across the bridge, make your way to the right. Four enemies will be on top of the next hill. Two will run down to say hi but kill them all. Keep going right and down. Two enemies will be around the corner behind rocks. Kill them. There will be two more ahead near the bridges for you to kill too. Across the bridge there will be three enemies. The marshal will come over to you at this point to help. Kill the enemies from your side or sprint across the bridge for a better shot. When they are dead, meet with the marshal and deputies behind the rocks across the bridge.

To the rescue!

When you and the marshals are all crouched together, Johnson will tell you the plan is to sneak up on the rest to prevent them from running. The four of you will begin shuffling towards some enemies ahead. Eventually one will spot you and alert the others. Three will be at the top of the basin ahead of you. One walking around that spots you, one runs up from the basin, and another hides behind a rock. Kill them. There are 5 more enemies throughout the basin, two on the far (South) side and three others among the tents. Kill them all from up high or get down into the campsite. They will be hiding behind various crates and things. The deputies will go down towards the left and the marshal will go down to the right along the canyon wall.

When all the enemies are dead, you'll need to get near the hostages who are tied up around an old wagon. A cutscene will show you freeing the thankful hostages and Marshal Johnson saying well done. Eli will then tell you that tonic merchant Nigel West Dickens is missing. The marshal will laugh how they just took care of thieves but the people are concerned about a bat piss merchant. The cattle and hostages will then be seen leaving the basin.

Gold Tips

  • Stay with the marshals going to Pike's Basin.
  • When the marshal says you are close, sprint ahead and straight into the canyon where the first enemies are. You'll probably lose your horse if you get real close.
  • As soon as those enemies are dead, go right and stay ahead of the marshal until after the campsite. You should have time to search the chests before needing to meet him.
  • Note: The marshal way is shorter and the deputy way has more enemies. You should be able to get more than 10 headshots no problem the marshal way.
  • Make sure your teammates aren't too far behind or you can fail.
  • Use Dead-Eye bursts for headshots when needed. Many enemies stay in one spot for easy pickings.
  • When you need to meet everyone across the last bridge, stay ahead of them and start running as soon as all three meet and the marshal begins to speak.
  • Use checkpoints if needed. If you miss a shot, fail that portion of the mission by jumping off a cliff. If at the end, there are TNT crates around.
