The Prohibitionist
The devil's drink is a source of argument. Now, a choice must be made between black and water.
This mission has 4 parts.
Your choices in this mission leave lasting effects on the world. One of the choices will cause all purchasable safehouses to double in price, so if you want to save money, it's advisable to purchase all safehouses before doing this mission.
Part 1
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed the stranger side-mission “The Wronged Woman” to unlock.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Speak to a man (Abner Forsyth) outside the Blackwater Saloon.
He rants how booze is bad and that "they" are campaigning in Congress to save the nation from it.
After getting an honest opinion about his preaching, Abner is prodded over his "moronic" beliefs. He insists he is right and that opposers are doomed. Doomed!
You are told to "Visit the seedier side of Blackwater" over at the docks.
Part 2
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "The Prohibitionist" Part 1.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Get to the marker and speak with a man (Oliver Philips) just inside an alleyway.
He thinks he knows a little about you and Bill Williamson even when he's told he's got the wrong person.
What he definitely knows is that you were talking to Abner - a pawn to get public intoxication outlawed and hurt bar owners like himself.
Philips wants Abner dead.
You are now given the choice to warn or kill Abner.
Part 3
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "The Prohibitionist" Part 2.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Go back over to Abner and choose.
You can get close to him and hit the Circle button to warn Abner.
Or just aim at and shoot him. Each choice comes with consequences.
Choice 1: Warn Abner
If you warn Abner, you'll end up having to pay double the price for any alcohol and safehouses. He'll give you some money and run off.
You'll receive up to $25, 5 Fame and 15 Honor.
Choice 2: Kill Abner
Killing Abner will result in all alcohol and safehouses being reduced to 50% of their original price.
You'll receive up to $25, 50 Fame but -120 Honor
Whichever you choose, you'll then need to go back to Philips.
Part 4
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "The Prohibitionist" Part 3.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Meet Philips back at his usual spot next to the drug store.
If you warned Abner, Philips will be angry and say that alcohol is now double the price for you.
If you killed Abner, Philips will give you some money and say you can get a drink in his bar whenever you want.
A message usually appears at the top corner to explain your actions and consequences, however sometimes it can disappear instantly. Check the Journal Brief to read it.
If you warned Abner, it will read:
Philips has spread aspersions and slander about your actions. Alcohol and room prices across the frontier are now double the normal price.
Either way, the side-mission is complete.
Tips
- Note: As stated at the top of this guide, consider the choices and take appropriate action.
