Camp Exploit - Get To Nuevo Paraiso Early!
Nuevo Paraiso (Mexico) is not unlocked until around halfway through the story, but you can get there at the start of the game with this wilderness camp glitch.
As soon as you've completed the first 2 missions in the game - "Exodus in America" and "New Friends, Old Problems", you'll be able to free roam around New Austin, starting at MacFarlane's Ranch.
Nuevo Paraiso to the South and West Elizabeth to the North-East are both locked. All of the bridges are under construction and the rivers run deep so there's no way over without drowning. You'll make your way there legitimately as you work through the story missions.
This exploit allows you to set up a camp which will automatically transport you to Nuevo Paraiso, leaving you free to explore Punta Orgullo, Perdido and Diez Coronas from the second you're off-mission.
This exploit was last tested and confirmed working on December 12th, 2025 on the PS5 version of the game. It may be patched in a future update (although that seems unlikely).
Step 1 - Frontera Bridge
Head to the very South-West of New Austin and follow the railway tracks until you find the "Frontera Bridge" - a rail bridge which leads over the river to Mexico. If you try to walk across it, you'll discover it's still under construction so there's no way over.
Make your way down the side of the bridge so you can head to the water directly under the bridge. There are a few ways down, but going down the hill to the left of the bridge is the easiest way.
Once you reach the bottom, you'll see the bridge supports resting in the water so you should be facing them (technically facing South and looking over the water towards Mexico).
Step 2 - Wet Feet
Get off your horse and slowly walk into the water, just to the right of the bridge supports. You can't go in very deep as you'll drown at anywhere past waist height, but luckily once you find the right place, you'll probably only be up to your knees. There's a tiny slope which gradually leads into the deeper water and this seems to be an ideal location to enter.
Walk around the water (without drowning) until the game thinks you're in "Punta Orgullo". It'll display the name of the location at the top of the screen. You don't need to go very deep, so if you think you're taking a risk, it's not worth it.
Step 3 - Camp On Dry Land
As soon as you see the location message for "Punta Orgullo" appear at the top of the screen, head back onto dry land and press the touch pad to bring up your Satchel, then go to "Kit" and use your campsite to set up a camp. If it doesn't let you set one up, just move a few steps and try again. Try to do it as close to the water's edge as possible but its ok if you need to move slightly inland as long as you don't see another location message telling you that you're back in Rio Bravo.
Once you find the sweet spot, your camp will be set up.
Step 4 - Welcome to New Paradise
If everything went well, your camp will actually be set up across the river in Nuevo Paraiso, usually somewhere by the location marked on the map below.
You can save your game if you like (when you reload you'll stay in Nuevo Paraiso), otherwise just exit the camp and you're free to explore all of the different states of Mexico and visit all of the towns and locations.
Heading to Escalera will allow you to purchase a safehouse, which in turn will unlock the "Mexican Poncho" outfit.
Visiting Escalera's Gunsmith means you can buy the area map for Punta Orgullo, unlocking all locations on your world map, and there are a few unique weapons to purchase, like the Semi-automatic Shotgun, although some of the others are still locked until later in the story.
Head to Chuparosa and you'll be able to purchase another safehouse as well as take part in Horsebreaking and Nightwatch jobs. The General Store there will sell the Bandito Scrap which will set you on your way to unlocking the Bandito Outfit. You'll also be able to grab the area maps for Perdido and Diez Coronas to mark all of their locations on your world map which should enable fast travel around all of Nuevo Paraiso from your wilderness campsite.
Further West, you'll be able to purchase a safehouse in Casa Madrugada and another in El Matadero.
Another benefit of reaching the area early is you'll be able to work on a number of the ambient challenges including the Treasure Hunter and Survivalist.
Step 5 - Returning to New Austin
Getting back to New Austin is incredibly easy. Just North of Chuparosa is a bridge which crosses a small island in the river (named "Ramita de la Baya"). Head as far across the bridge as you can, until you reach the part that is under construction. By the time you reach it, you should see a location message at the top of the screen suggesting the game thinks you're in "Rio Bravo". Simply press the touch pad and set up a campsite from your "Kit" and the camp will be set up across the river and you'll be back in New Austin!
Here's a map showing the main locations you'll need to visit in order to perform the exploit.
