Let No Man Put Asunder
An old woman has been waiting a long time for her fiancé to show up at their wedding.
This mission has 4 parts.
Part 1
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed the mission “Obstacles in Our Path” to unlock.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
On the road to Coot's Chapel, you'll encounter an old woman named Alma Horlick sitting in some ruins.
Approach her and press Circle to "Talk to the woman".
The woman is looking sad and John asks her if she's alright.
She takes a closer look at John and tells him he reminds her of "her Peter".
She asks John if he's seen Peter, but he tells her he doesn't think so. She explains he's late to their wedding and it's supposed to be their perfect day. She thinks Peter must be in the Armadillo saloon talking to the musicians and begs John to go and fetch him for fear that something has happened to him.
You're then instructed to "Talk to the musician in Armadillo Saloon about Peter's whereabouts".
Part 2
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "Let No Man Put Asunder" Part 1.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Make your way into the nearby town of Armadillo and approach the Saloon.
Inside, you'll spot one of the piano players - a man named Nathan Harling - sitting with his feet up at the table at the center of the room. Approach him.
Nathan interrupts John before he can speak, telling him "I don't take requests, mister".
John takes a seat and explains he's looking for a man named Peter who is meant to get married today. Nathan wonders if he's looking for "Pete Turner", but explains he can't remember where to find him unless he's "properly stimulated".
"Five dollars will do. Or you could run a little errand for me" explains Nathan.
Nathan explains his wife, Rose, packed her things and left him this morning. He wants you to convince her to take him back. John explains he'll go and talk to her, but Nathan says he'll "need more than talk... with that bitch".
You now have a choice on how to proceed with the mission.
Part 3
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "Let No Man Put Asunder" Part 2.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
You'll be told to "Pay the musician $5 or convince his wife to come back to him". Given you're standing right next to Nathan, you can press Circle to "Pay the musician $5". This is the easiest choice if you can spare the money. It's considered the "Good choice".
Otherwise, if you want to see more of Nathan's story, his wife Rose can be found across the street in front of the freight station, marked with a blue blip.
Approach her and John will talk to her, however it becomes obvious she has no intention of going back.
"If that useless, whore mongering bastard sent you, get lost. Tell that bastard I ain't going back. Not this time. Not even at gunpoint!" she says angrily. "You signed an oath, miss. For better or worse. Way I see it, you should give him one last chance" explains John. You can now opt to hogtie her (if you have the lasso - it's possible to do this mission before you've actually unlocked it), or threaten her by pointing a gun at her.
Hogtying her is the optimal choice if you can, then you can carry her and drop her off at the musician.
If you choose to threaten her, you'll receive -100 Honor (which will be returned at the end of the mission) unless you wear the Bandana while you do it.
You'll then have to follow her with a gun pointed at her as she walks across the street into the Saloon.
Rose and Nathan are reunited, but not by choice.
Once his demands have been satisfied - either with Rose returned or $5, which is apparently all the same to him - Nathan tells John that Peter was in the saloon every night. His fate is what happens to all of us and that he's probably out in Odd Fellow's Rest.
You're then instructed to "Find Peter at Odd Fellow's Rest".
Part 4
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed "Let No Man Put Asunder" Part 3.
LOCATION:
WALKTHROUGH:
Ride over to Odd Fellow's Rest to the West of Armadillo.
Head inside the cemetery and you'll discover a gravestone with his name on it.
It says he died from a blow to the head in 1894 - about 20 years ago.
"Peter Turner
Bethrothed to Miss Alma Horlick
Killed by a blow to the head on the 15th of January 1894
He will never dance with another".
This suggests Alma is going crazy, but also hints at her being the one who murdered her husband-to-be for dancing with another woman. We never actually find out. If you return to Alma's location, she's gone - although she does make a comeback in Undead Nightmare...
Let No Man Put Asunder complete.
Tips
- After talking with Alma, head to the Armadillo Saloon and speak with the musician.
- The easiest solution is to simply pay the musician $5.
- Ride to Odd Fellow's Rest and visit the grave.
Mission Rewards
- +100 Honor at the end of the mission
- You'll end up $5 down if you pay the musician
- You'll lose -100 Honor if you threaten the musician's wife during the mission, essentially wiping out the honor bonus at the end (use the Bandana to avoid this).
